I’m thrilled to be organizing an Elder Fest for Scott Valley. Many of our elders are not able to make the trek to Yreka for the Area Agency on Aging’s annual “Senior Information Fair”. The annual event brings in resources and providers of different kinds of support: in-home care, dietary services, medical providers, hospice agencies, and more. The opportunity to meet and talk with the providers is often very helpful to seniors looking for support or to plan ahead for future needs. Now, we’ll be bringing many of these same providers right to the Valley.
In addition, our Elder Fest will also feature fun activities that seniors may want to do. From volunteer opportunities to creative works, we’ll have people ready to demonstrate, teach, or provide information on ways to get involved. It is critical in later life to remain actively involved in life – when your younger hobbies outstrip your physical prowess, you have to find a new gig. I hope the Elder Fest will give seniors a taste of that.
The Elder Fest should be a fun outing for people of all ages. We’ll have live music (of course!), refreshments and snacks, and a raffle to win various local prizes.
